Statement concerning vaccine production at Pirbright

February 26, 2008

The UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has informed Merial Animal Health that we can once again make vaccines to protect animals from foot and mouth and bluetongue disease at our Pirbright Centre. The Specified Animal Pathogens Order (SAPO) licence has been restored.

This is excellent news and means Merial can re-start the production of urgently-needed veterinary vaccines immediately.

We would like to express our thanks to the government veterinary services and other agencies who are our customers - and to the farmers around the world they serve - for their patience and understanding during this period.
